COUNSELOR GREEN. >> THANK YOU MADAM PRESIDENT. THIS IS BEEN SOMETHING THAT COUNSELOR HANAN AND THE MAYOR HAVE BEEN WORKING ON. THE CITY OF CARMEL HAS A LARGE NON-NUMBER OF VETERANS AND MENTAL ILLNESS AND SUICIDE. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE AND PROBLEMS AMONG THE VETERAN COMMUNITY. THIS IS A PROCLAMATIONADHERING TO THAT POINT. SO, IF I MAY READ THE PROCLAMATION. N. CITY OF CARMEL PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS CARMEL IS PROUD TO BE HOME TO 3558 VETERANS AND, WHEREAS WE CONTINUE TO BUILD AND ENCOURAGE AND CONNECT RESOURCES AND SYSTEMS OF CARE THAT EMPOWER OUR VETERANS TO LEAVE THEIR BEST LIVES AND REALIZE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY. AND, WHEREAS, COLLABORATION WITH THE RESIDENCE OF PARTNERS IS COMMITTED TO THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY AND, WHEREAS SINCE 2005 THE RATE OF SUICIDE IN HAMILTON COUNTY AMONG VETERANS WAS 32 PER HUNDRED THOUSAND COMPARED TO 17.2 PER HUNDRED THOUSAND FOR NONVETERANS. WHEREAS BETWEEN MARCH AND 8 VETERANS DIED BY SUICIDE IN HAMILTON COUNTY. A 400 PERCENT INCREASE OVER THE PREVIOUS YEAR. AND, WHEREAS, WE RECOGNIZE THE CHALLENGES WHEN TRANSITIONING FROM ACTIVE DUTY STATUS, UNDERSTAND VETERAN ASSISTANT IS A CONSTANT COMMUNITY EFFORT. THE NEED TO ASSIST VETERANS IN NAVIGATING THESE RESOURCES THAT HAMILTON COUNTY COMMUNITY PROVIDES IS CONTINUING ADDRESSED. AND, WHEREAS WE COMMIT TO ENGAGE IN COMMUNITY EFFORTS AND COLLABORATE WITH PARTNERS LIKE THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF VETERAN AFFAIRS. THE INDIA DEPARTMENT OF VETERAN AFFAIRS. HAMILTON COUNTY HELP TO PERMIT BEEN THE FOREIGN LEGION, COMMUNITY OF MENTAL HEALTH CENTERS AND OUR BUSINESS AND NONPROFIT COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO CREATE EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE VETERAN SUICIDE WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY. AND, WHEREAS WE ARE COMMITTED TO COMMITTING THE HOME COMMITTEE WHERE OUR RETURNING VETERANS CAN LEAVE, WORK AND THRIVE WITH READY ACCESS TO THE CARE THEY NEED WHEN THEY NEED IT. NOW, THEREFORE I JAMES BRAINARD THE MAYOR OF CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM CARMEL'S APPRECIATION OF OUR VETERANS AND OUR PLEDGE TO HELP SAVE VETERAN LIVES.
